Feds seize nearly 100 pounds of cocaine in Edinburg (valleycentral.com) ā State troopers in Edinburg recently stopped a van and uncovered nearly 100 pounds of cocaine plus additional suspected drugs hidden in speaker boxes and fire extinguishers. The driver, a San Juan resident, was detained after briefly fleeing on foot and now faces a federal cocaine distribution charge carrying a possible 10āyearsātoālife sentence.

Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office Applauded for Cockfighting Bust In Edinburg, Texas (animalwellnessaction.org) ā Law enforcement in the Edinburg area recently broke up an alleged cockfighting operation near Monte Alto, seizing birds and equipment and charging the property owner under Texas law. A national animal welfare group is praising Hidalgo County deputies and DPS for the bust and using the case to push for tougher federal penalties on animal fighting networks.
