Fort Worth Park & Rec to Break Ground on Bomber Spur Trail

The Fort Worth Park & Recreation department is celebrating the groundbreaking of the Bomber Spur Trail at North Z Boaz Park on Thursday.

The city put out a blog post inviting residents to the ceremony on Monday. The groundbreaking will start at 10 a.m. on April 23. The meet-up location is the south parking lot near the dog park.

Mayor Mattie Parker and District 3 City Council Member Michael Crain will join city leaders, partners, and community members to mark the start of construction on this addition to the Fort Worth trail system.

The long-awaited Bomber Spur Trail project represents a major step in the expansion of the trail system, which is expected to improve connectivity and preserve a unique part of the city's history.

Once it is complete, the trail will provide a link for pedestrians and cyclists, connecting neighborhoods, parks, and destinations.

The corridor follows a historic rail line tied to the city's aviation legacy. During World War II, the rail spur served the Consolidated Aircraft Corp., later Convair, supporting the production of B-23 Liberator bombers at Air Force Plant 4.

Over time, the corridor became known as "Bomber Spur," which reflects the important role it played in the city's wartime industrial efforts.

Park & Rec Director Dave Lewis said, "This project is about more than just a trail—it is about honoring Fort Worth's history while investing in its future. Bomber Spur will create new opportunities for residents to get outside, connect with nature, and travel safely across our community."

The trail project is made possible through partnerships among the Park & Recreation department, the Transportation & Public Works department, and key regional partners, including Streams & Valleys, the North Central Texas Council of Governments, the Texas Department of Transportation, and project consultant Kimley-Horn.
