Beats on the Beach concert series returns to Galveston Island (cw39.com) ā Starting this Saturday, June 13, Palm Beach at Moody Gardens kicks off nine straight Saturdays of Beats on the Beach concerts, fireworks, and family fun on Galveston Island. You can enjoy live bands, the lazy river, wave pool, and fireworks over Offatts Bayou, with daytime visitors allowed to stay for the evening shows at no extra charge.

2. Transit study seeks input from Galveston County residents (galvnews.com) ā Galveston County residents are being asked to help shape a potential regional bus network that could finally make commuting between Houston and Galveston practical without a car. The Houston-Galveston Area Councilās multi-year study is gathering surveys and will hold public meetings to understand travel needs, especially for low-income residents, students, seniors, and others who struggle with long-distance transportation today.

3. Restoration revives one of Galveston's oldest landmarks (galvnews.com) ā A major $3.1 million restoration has brought Galvestonās 1861 Courthouse and Customhouse back to its former glory, just in time for its 165th anniversary and Juneteenthās fifth year as a federal holiday. The project, led by local attorney Shaun Hodge with preservation partners, preserves key architectural details while returning the landmark to active use and strengthening Galvestonās connection to its Juneteenth history.

4. Local ministry helps island children find joy of reading, faith (galvnews.com) ā A Galveston-based ministry called Shine U.S.A. is helping disadvantaged island children grow in both reading skills and Christian faith through weekly park gatherings and a summer literacy program. Organizers say every participant improved at least one reading level last summer, and theyāre now seeking donations, reading mentors, and a handicapped-accessible mini-bus to keep expanding their free services from their 39th Street base.
