1. Garland's Red, White & YOU! (dallasmoms.com) — Garland residents can look forward to the Red, White & YOU! celebration in Downtown Garland on Friday, July 3, featuring live music, carnival attractions, kids’ activities, and a big fireworks show. Free shuttles from Garland High School and Lavon Baptist Church, plus DART’s Blue Line, make getting there easy, and a free Hamilton screening at the Plaza Theatre caps off the night.
   

2. On The Border to close locations one year after being pulled from bankruptcy (dallasnews.com) — Garland’s On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina will serve its final meals today, Friday, June 12, as the Tex-Mex chain shuts all company-owned locations. The Mesquite restaurant is also closing, while a few out-of-state and international franchises will stay open as the brand’s owners reconsider its future.
   

3. U23 Pan American Championships (June 11-13) Full Event Schedule (win-magazine.com) — A U.S. wrestling roster for the U23 Pan American Championships includes Garland native Troy Spratley at 57 kg in men’s freestyle. While the event is national in scope, it’s a point of pride for Garland sports fans to see a hometown athlete competing on an international stage.
   

4. The Stories that Hair Can Tell: Rosemary Meza-DesPlas at the Martin Museum of Art (artsandculturetx.com) — A nationally recognized hair-based artist who grew up in Garland is being celebrated in a major exhibition at Baylor University’s Martin Museum of Art. Rosemary Meza-DesPlas uses human hair to explore identity, feminism, and visibility, weaving in Latina activism and family history while highlighting voices often left out of traditional narratives.
