Backed by Gilmer natives and the East Texas Yamboree Association, the YES for Women endowment supports first-generation Upshur County women like Romero who balance strong academics, heavy work hours, and community service.
   

• Big Brothers Giving Back mentoring group hosting fundraiser fish fry June 26-27 (gilmermirror.com) — Big Brothers Giving Back, honored by the Gilmer Area Chamber of Commerce, is hosting a fish fry fundraiser June 26–27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1002 Texas 154 West. For a $15 donation, residents can enjoy catfish plates while supporting mentoring programs that guide local boys through life skills, career exploration, and health education.
