• Texas confirms five new world screwworm cases, sets infested zones to contain spread (cbsaustin.com) — State animal-health officials have confirmed a New World screwworm case in a goat in Harper placing our area inside a new 12.5‑mile “infested zone” that restricts livestock movement. Residents in Gillespie, Kerr, and Kimble counties are urged to work with veterinarians, use recommended medications for pets and livestock, and stay alert as federal and state agencies intensify surveillance and control efforts.

• DARPA Joins U.S. Fight Against Flesh-Eating Screwworm (sofx.com) — Harper is again in the spotlight as one of Texas’s confirmed New World screwworm cases involved a goat here, while federal agencies race to contain the parasite. DARPA has launched a new GUARDIAN program to develop advanced technologies against invasive species, supporting USDA’s efforts as infested zones and livestock movement restrictions expand across Texas.
