• Walker Co. inmate dies while on work crew (fox44news.com) — An inmate from a Walker County work crew collapsed Tuesday morning while doing grounds maintenance at the Walker County Courthouse in Huntsville and later died at Huntsville Memorial Hospital despite life-saving efforts. Texas Rangers have taken over the investigation, and the inmate’s identity is being withheld until family are notified.

• Judge recommends medical parole for inmate who had been on Texas death row for 47 years (houstonpublicmedia.org) — A longtime Texas death row inmate has been re-sentenced to life in prison, and the judge is recommending medical parole because of his severe physical and mental health issues. Now housed at the Estelle Unit prison hospital in Huntsville, he could be released under intensive medical supervision if the state parole board agrees, highlighting Huntsville’s central role in Texas’ prison healthcare system.
