Texas School Districts Following Trend to Prevent TEA Takeover (everythinglubbock.com) — Killeen ISD is partnering with charter operator Third Future Schools to turn around Manor Middle School and avoid a potential Texas Education Agency takeover of the entire district. The three-year agreement brings new instructional methods, leadership, and assurances that sports and electives will remain, while giving the campus a chance to improve before stricter state action.

Killeen council agrees with amendment to appoint representatives as soon as vacancy happens (kdhnews.com) — Killeen’s City Council has voted 6–1 to back a charter amendment that would let vacancies be filled by appointment as soon as they occur, with a special election only if there’s no quorum. Supporters say residents need continuous representation, while critics warn the city could end up with mostly appointed, not elected, council members if many seats open at once.

3. KPD summer camp teaches safety, leadership and life skills to local youth (kdhnews.com) — Killeen middle schoolers just wrapped up a weeklong CSI Summer Camp run by Killeen Police Department and Killeen Parks and Recreation, focused on safety, leadership, and life skills. Campers practiced CPR, met SWAT and firefighters, learned about bullying and substance risks, and finished with a celebratory water park trip, all aimed at building stronger connections with local first responders.

4. Remembering Those Who Gave Their All in Defense of Our Nation (texasinsider.org) — Killeen’s Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery took part in statewide Memorial Day tributes, with flags placed on KIA and MIA graves and a 21-gun salute and Taps performed off-site. The Texas Veterans Land Board chair highlights how all four state veterans cemeteries honored fallen service members and their families, emphasizing year-round care for these sacred resting places.
