• Teen driver killed in Dawson County rollover crash (yourbasin.com) — A 16-year-old girl from Lamesa was killed early Wednesday in a single-vehicle rollover on County Road 18 in Dawson County, according to state troopers. Investigators say her SUV left the lane, overcorrected, and rolled; she was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene. Authorities have not released her name because she was a minor.

• Smith Unit corrections officer arrested in Lubbock, placed on leave (cw39.com) — A 19-year-old correctional officer who works at the Smith Unit in Lamesa was arrested in Lubbock on April 12 on weapon and DWI-related charges, officials confirmed. A state trooper reported erratic driving, recovered a handgun from the vehicle, and determined the driver was intoxicated. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice says he’s now on leave during an investigation.
