Liberty City preparing for residential growth (kltv.com) — Major residential growth is headed just down I-20 from Longview, as Liberty City prepares for hundreds of new homes, expanded water and sewer lines, and a six-lane highway project. With I-20 and Highway 135 improvements starting Monday, Longview-area drivers and families could see more traffic, new subdivisions, and pressure on nearby schools and emergency services over the next decade.

Longview native country singer to headline June's Great Texas Balloon Race (news-journal.com) — Longview native Sunny Sweeney will headline the Great Texas Balloon Race concerts June 13 at the Longview Convention Complex, with music, balloon glows, drone shows, and more all weekend. Residents can choose single-day tickets or a weekend pass, with free admission on June 14 and a mix of country, blues-rock, and tribute acts planned.

4. Outdoor Greats on Stage + Free Fishing Poles for Kids. Don't Miss God and the Great Outdoors Expo (kltv.com) — Families in Longview can plan ahead for the God & The Great Outdoors Expo coming June 19–21 to Maude Cobb Convention Center, with free admission for kids and low-cost tickets for adults. The faith-focused outdoor weekend will feature fishing pole giveaways for children, guest speakers, and hands-on activities designed to make the outdoors accessible and fun for all ages.

5. Parole denied for man who pleaded guilty in 2003 Texarkana triple murder (kltv.com) — Two former employees of the Longview Outback Steakhouse were among three workers killed in a 2003 robbery-murder at a Texarkana Outback, and the man who pleaded guilty in the case has just been denied parole. State officials cited the violent nature of the crime, and he will not be eligible for parole again until 2031.
