Court documents describe how security video allegedly captured his truck and show investigators believe he crawled through a dog door before the fire. He’s being held in the Lubbock County Detention Center on a $75,000 bond.

District leaders say the plan responds to enrollment, capacity, and funding realities, and emphasize that no final decision has been made while they continue gathering community input.

3. Texas DPS says 2 killed, child injured in Lubbock County head-on crash (lubbockonline.com) — Two Lubbock residents were killed and a 6-year-old boy was seriously injured in a head-on crash Thursday on FM 1585 in Lubbock County. Investigators say an eastbound SUV crossed into the westbound lane and struck a pickup, whose Lubbock driver suffered minor injuries. Authorities are still working to determine what caused the vehicle to veer into oncoming traffic.

4. Lubbock ISD names Williams Elementary Principal, Announces Facility Naming Process (kcbd.com) — Lubbock ISD has named longtime district educator Loren Henderson as the next principal of Nat Williams Elementary, just as the campus prepares to consolidate with Stewart Elementary and undergo major construction through 2028. The district also launched an online form for residents to suggest names for three new elementary campuses funded by the 2025 bond, with submissions open until August 1 and final decisions expected August 27.

5. Lubbock's new TxDOT engineer credits her Floydada math teachers with successful path (hesperianbeacononline.com) — Lubbock’s newly named TxDOT district engineer, Kylan Sanders Francis, is stepping into the role as the first woman to lead the district that oversees many of the roads locals drive every day. She credits her Floydada High School math teachers and time at Texas Tech for preparing her to thrive in a male-dominated engineering field. Her leadership will help shape future transportation projects across the Lubbock region.
