1. Woman arrested following ‘secure lockout' of Rusk ISD (kltv.com) — Rusk ISD briefly went into a secure lockout Wednesday morning after a non-credible threat was made toward G.W. Bradford Rusk Primary School, but classes soon returned to normal. Police say a woman was arrested on a pending terroristic threat charge, and district leaders thanked local law enforcement, staff, students, and families for calmly following safety procedures.

Rusk police chief resigns following investigation (ketk.com) — Rusk’s police chief Jamie Campbell has resigned following an investigation into his treatment of officers, and retired Bee Cave chief Russell Pancoast is stepping in as interim chief. The move follows months of tension between Rusk City Hall and the police department, including complaints, outside reviews, and differing accounts of morale within the force.

Prep Baseball Roundup: Troup and Brook Hill earn landslide wins (jacksonvilleprogress.com) — Rusk High’s baseball team fell 3–1 at home to Madisonville despite a strong 12-strikeout performance from pitcher Ross Davis. The Eagles outhit the Mustangs but couldn’t convert enough runs and now head to Center on Friday seeking to rebound in District 17-4A play.

Black bear becomes "local icon" in East Texas (audacy.com) — A black bear roaming the Neches River corridor near Rusk has become a bit of a local celebrity after sticking around East Texas far longer than most bears do. Wildlife officials say it’s shy, mostly just toppling corn feeders, and they’re urging residents to enjoy sightings from a distance, secure outdoor food, and follow simple “BearWise” safety tips.
