• Man sentenced to 10 years in prison for cocaine smuggling at Kingsville checkpoint (kiiitv.com) — Residents should know that federal agents intercepted nearly $210,000 in cocaine after a high-speed chase from the Javier Vega Jr. Border Patrol checkpoint near Sarita, leading to a 10-year prison sentence for a Philadelphia man. The July 2024 stop uncovered almost 10 kilograms of cocaine hidden in a vehicle’s rear panels, and the convicted passenger will now serve federal time followed by supervised release.
   

• New details in case of Texas doctor detained by ICE (mysanantonio.com) — A Venezuelan doctor detained after being stopped at the Sarita Border Patrol checkpoint is expected to be released on bond and return home while his immigration case continues.
