• Man Arrested After Chase Leaves Pedestrian Injured (portisabelsouthpadre.com) — A police pursuit on South Padre Island Wednesday night ended with a pedestrian struck on Padre Boulevard and a Rio Grande City man under arrest. South Padre Island Police say the driver fled a speeding stop, crashed in the 3600 block of Padre, and now faces felony evading, DWI, and reckless driving charges while the victim remains hospitalized.
   

• Trial date set for accused cop killer (portisabelsouthpadre.com) — A high-profile capital murder trial is now set for August 10, 2026, stemming from a deadly police pursuit that began with a traffic stop on the South Padre Island beach. Prosecutors say the chase moved through Port Isabel and Brownsville before San Benito Lt. Milton Resendez was fatally shot, and local law enforcement stresses they are building the case carefully before trial.
