(queondamagazine.com) — Spring ISD has boosted its state accountability rating from a D to a C, slashing the number of F-rated campuses from 11 to just two for 2025-26 and easing fears of potential state intervention. District leaders credit streamlined curricula, a new state math program, daily in-class assessments, stronger coaching for mostly newer teachers, and optional Saturday school that now serves about 3,000 students weekly.

(queondamagazine.com) — In Spring, a 17-year-old spent 48 hours in jail and now faces steep legal costs after deputies wrongly arrested him in an aggravated assault case. 3. 5 Houston-area residents charged in $1M tax refund scheme (fox26houston.com) — A Spring resident is among five Houston-area people charged in a federal scheme involving a counterfeit $1 million U.S. Treasury tax refund check. Prosecutors say the group used a business account and multiple banks to move the money, and each defendant now faces the possibility of decades in prison and hefty fines if convicted.
4. Houston Appeals Ruling Against Minority Contracting Program (texasscorecard.com) — A Spring couple's lawsuit against Houston's minority contracting rules has now helped push the city into a major federal appeal over how it awards billions in contracts. While the case centers on Houston's program, the outcome could affect Harris County's similar rules and how Spring-based businesses compete for public work across the region.
5. U.S. artistic athletes selected for Paris, Szombathely World Challenge Cups • USA Gymnastics (usagym.org) — A Spring gymnast, Dulcy Caylor of World Champions Centre, has been selected to represent the U.S. at the Szombathely World Challenge Cup in Hungary this September. USA Gymnastics also named six other athletes for Szombathely and Paris World Challenge Cups, all chosen based on their performances at the 2026 Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships.
