USDA releases sterile flies near Uvalde to fight screwworm spread (krgv.com) — Federal agriculture officials are targeting a screwworm outbreak that began near Uvalde by releasing millions of sterile flies at a nearby La Pryor ranch to stop the flesh‑eating parasite’s spread. With multiple Texas cases confirmed, Uvalde‑area pet owners and ranchers are urged to inspect animals for suspicious wounds and report any concerns immediately to authorities.
   

2. New World Screwworm in Texas: Austin Wildlife Rescue issues new intake guidelines (fox7austin.com) — Parts of Uvalde County are now under a New World screwworm quarantine, restricting movement of warm‑blooded animals without Texas Animal Health Commission approval. With six Texas cases confirmed in nearby counties, wildlife rescuers and livestock owners are being told to follow new intake and movement rules, stay alert for signs of infestation, and report any suspected cases promptly.

Her award-winning documentary short, “All the Empty Rooms,” spotlights the untouched bedrooms of children lost to school shootings, keeping their stories and Uvalde’s pain in front of a worldwide audience.
   

4. Schiff, Dems press Trump administration on how criminals end up with munitions made at Army plant (ny1.com) — Uvalde is specifically mentioned as an example of a mass shooting where ammunition made at a Missouri Army plant was used, prompting new scrutiny from several U.S. senators. They’re pressing the Trump administration to explain how military-grade rounds from the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant end up with Mexican cartels and in violent crimes nationwide, and what safeguards will prevent future misuse.
