Mid-Island Y JCC

Join our own Miri Kessar as we explore powerful and timely Israeli music, films and cultural works that helped shape the people and the State of Israel.
Each session will focus on a particular song or film rooted in or connected to real events and experiences, inviting participants to look beneath the surface and consider what these works can teach us about Israeli society and its enduring spirit.
Through bilingual Hebrew-English introductions and guided conversation, participants will explore themes of courage, resilience, hope, responsibility, memory and community.

Ready to take your Canasta skills to the next level? Join the Mid Island Y JCC for five weeks of supervised Canasta play designed for players who have already completed a Beginner Canasta class and want more practice and guidance.
Each session begins with a short refresher and mini-lesson, followed by supervised play. Instructors Amy and Emma will be available throughout the sessions to answer questions, offer tips and help you build confidence at the table.
The class meets Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., October 21 through November 18.

Join watercolor artist Janet Gordon for a fun and relaxing four-week class focused on painting beautiful florals. Participants will learn how to confidently paint basic shapes of sunflowers, anemones, cosmos and more while developing their watercolor skills and discovering their own painting style.

The program will feature a screening of We Are From Here, which follows Rabbi Gadi Capela, a Columbia University student during the October 7 riots, as he shares his family’s exodus from Yemen during Operation On Wings of Eagles. The film highlights the experiences of Middle Eastern Jews and their enduring connection to the Land of Israel.

The Jay Heritage Center (JHC) is proud to welcome educators to our site during September 2026, Constitution Month, to commemorate our nation’s journey towards independence and democracy. The free program is co-sponsored by the Mid-Hudson Social Studies Council. The event will be the first of many lively conversation about America at 250 with some of our country’s leading history scholars. It is open to teachers throughout the Mid Hudson and Sound Shore communities as well as Fairfield County.
Professors David Blight, Frank Cogliano, Joanne Freeman and Beverly Gage will take the stage at the new Wachenheim Center to examine the history of the nation-state and the contested nature of American national identity. The panel will discuss what the United States and the Constitution have meant to citizens over time and how that vision has changed or stayed constant. &nbsp;The event is FREE but registration is required.
