<a href="https://historyfortlauderdale.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">History Fort Lauderdale</a>, committed to preserving our collective heritage, promoting historical literacy, and fostering a sense of pride and stewardship for the vibrant tapestry of our region’s history, will present its Hispanic Heritage Month fifth anniversary exhibit, “Viva Fort Lauderdale: Celebrating Hispanic Art &amp; Culture.” The free fine art exhibit, running from Thursday, September 17, through Sunday, October 25, will feature work from local award-winning artists-in-residence including Florencia Clement de Grandprey (Spain), Isabel Perez Salazar (Venezuela), and Lifrancis Rojas (Venezuela). New this year will be sculptures from Norman Silva (Nicaragua). The exhibit will be available to view at History Fort Lauderdale’s New River Inn (231 Southwest Second Avenue).
History Fort Lauderdale’s “Viva Fort Lauderdale” is sponsored by the following funds at the Community Foundation of Broward: Jan and Ed Crocker Unrestricted Fund, Leo M. and Alice J. Rutten Fund and The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation Broward Community Fund. Additional funding is provided, in part, by Broward County Board of County Commissioners as recommended by the Broward County Cultural Council and Visit Lauderdale. 
History Fort Lauderdale hosts a variety of engaging multicultural experiences, year-round. It seeks to bring awareness to the community through both traveling exhibits and multiple permanent exhibits including “Women Trailblazers,” “Fort Lauderdale – the Early Years,” “Roots of Resilience: The Journey of Black Broward,” “Fashion &amp; Musical Theatre,” “From Dugouts to Dream Yachts: the story of boatbuilding along the New River,” Seminole Arts &amp; Culture,” “New River Archaeology,” and “Take PRIDE, a retrospective on LGBTQ life in South Florida.” 
History Fort Lauderdale is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. with docent guided tours, daily, at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. Group walking tours are available upon special request. Admission is $15 for adults; $12 for seniors and $7 for students (through age 22 with a valid student ID). Admission is free for members, military and children ages six and under. Community-Based Connections, Inc. (CBCI), a nonprofit organization dedicated to delivering youth development, family strengthening, and community empowerment services to underserved populations, invites couples to reconnect, rekindle, and grow during its FREE Stronger Together Couples Conference on Saturday, September 19, from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the Marriott West Palm Beach. Married, dating or co-parenting couples will get the tools they need to help strengthen relationships, improve communication, rebuild trust, and support healthier families from award-winning speakers and counselors.
The thought-provoking event with host Mikelange Olbel, president/CEO of Community-Based Connections, Inc, will include interactive panel discussions and a complimentary dinner. 
Jason and Dr. Rhonda Turner, founders of 4 Knowledge Is Power, Inc., will lead the “Reconnect &amp; Rekindle” interactive session designed to help participants reconnect, strengthen communication, renew affection, and identify a meaningful next step for their relationship or family.
Inspirational speakers and licensed marriage counselors Bishop Oscar Lewis Sr., senior pastor, Faith Deliverance Church of God, Riviera Beach &amp;
Dr. Diane Lewis, executive director of Feeding Hope Village, Michael &amp; Rebecca Talton, co-leaders of the music ministry at Christ Evangelical Baptist Church, and Kirk Brown, CEO, Handy, Inc. &amp; Chana Wyble Brown will lead the “Living United” panel. Attendees will learn from them sharing practical insights on remaining unified through conflict, cultural pressures, social media, parenting demands, and other challenges that can affect family stability. The session will be moderated by Gwynette Williams, associate vice president of mentoring at the United Way of Palm Beach County.
Angela T. Williams, author of “The Caregivers Playbook,” Mark &amp; Sylvia Woods, ministry leaders and founders of ChichiMa Productions, and Christine Frederick, CEO of The Lord’s Place &amp; Julian Frederick will address “The Resilient Couple Blueprint” – a discussion on navigating adversity and change while balancing marriage, careers, and entrepreneurship; supporting one another's goals; managing competing responsibilities; celebrating shared success; and protecting their connection at home. The session will be moderated by Dr. Jamian Lovett, senior pastor at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church of West Palm Beach.
All families in Broward and Palm Beach counties are eligible, including single parents (fathers and mothers), co-parenting partners, married or unmarried couples, expectant parents, and adults seeking to strengthen relationships, communication, or family dynamics. There are no income restrictions, and participants may self-refer or be referred by partner agencies.

The Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort

Community-Based Connections, Inc. (CBCI), a nonprofit organization dedicated to delivering youth development, family strengthening, and community empowerment services to underserved populations, will recognize outstanding individuals and companies for their contributions to help improve the quality of life for local children and families during its fifth annual Green Blazer Awards Gala &amp; Celebration to be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, at the Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort (321 N. Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd.). 
This year’s honorees are Kirk Brown, CEO of Handy; Carol Hylton, president and CEO of CareerSource Broward; Brian C. Johnson, founder of Community-Based Connections, Inc. and president and CEO of the Minority Builders Coalition; Newton Sanon, president and CEO of OIC of South Florida; FPL (Florida Power &amp; Light) and The GEO Group Foundation. 
The evening of celebration, hosted by Local 10 Anchor/Reporter Aaron Maybin, will include a cocktail reception, a seated three-course dinner with an open bar, live musical entertainment, dancing and the impactful awards ceremony, which includes the presentation of the branded green blazers. 
Proceeds from the event will benefit CBCI’s Awesome Dads Awesome Men (A.D.A.M.) fatherhood mentoring program, The Beacon of HOPE-Intact Family Navigation Program, Family Strengthening Program, and S.M.A.R.T. monitoring safety plans, as well as its vital initiatives such as Early Achievers at Markham Elementary, Young Believers, Club Elevate, Haven and Healing Space.
