Holyoke Heritage State Park

James M. Long photographed the Mt. Tom Ski Area and researched its history to assemble a book which seeks to celebrate the Ski Area’s legacy and impact on the community by examining its past and present through both the camera’s eye and historical record.
Over 100 original photographs plus 175+ pull quotes from regional newspapers illustrate and celebrate the lasting contributions that the Daniel J. O’Connell family and everyone associated with the success of the Ski Area accomplished.&nbsp;
The book was published in February of 2026 and is available at regional independent booksellers, and mttomskibook.com. 
A book launch will be held at the DCR Holyoke Heritage State Park Visitor's Center on May 2nd from 1-3pm. No admission or RSVP required.

Valley Opportunity Council’s (VOC) Senior Companion Program (SCP) is seeking new volunteers to serve in Chicopee, Holyoke, and surrounding cities.&nbsp;
The SCP pairs volunteers ages 55-plus with older adults who need companionship.
Senior Companion Volunteers provide social connection and friendly visiting; offer transportation and help with errands such as grocery shopping or medical appointments; and deliver caregiver respite, giving family members a needed break. Each volunteer experience is unique, based on a carefully created one-on-one match.&nbsp;
For those interested in learning more about the program and volunteering, our next&nbsp;Open House will be held on Monday, April 27, 2026 from 2-4 pm, 516 Chicopee Street, Chicopee, featuring refreshments and information. Current SCP volunteers will also be present to answer questions.
