The Anatomy of Meditation: Building a Better Meditation Practice

As another hot summer comes to an end, we may find ourselves feeling a bit tired, like the weight of the world is on our shoulders. If we feel like we have nothing left to give, it is easy to feel cranky and frustrated.
But we can learn to change our mind from negative to positive with meditation. For example, the practice of developing real compassion for others is a great way to stay uplifted and energized. With compassion, we can hold on to our best qualities and let our good nature shine, even when we're not feeling our best.
By applying effort, cultivating our own good heart, and relying upon the clear advice of modern Kadampa Buddhism, we can definitely learn how to develop and maintain a happy and compassionate mind towards others. With practice, we can move beyond unpleasant states of mind, even when we're tired.

Staying Human in Hard Times - Keeping Compassion Alive When You’re Exhausted

The Four Noble truths are the foundation of Buddha's teachings. In reality, everything that Buddha taught was an expression of the Four Noble Truths. They are the pillars of Buddhist spiritual life, helping us to recognize our problems and their causes; to find direction in our daily practice; to maintain a correct motivation; and to achieve the results we desire.
In this special course our Resident Teacher, Gen Kelsang Wangpo, an American Buddhist monk, will share how even in our modern society we can find the practical application of Buddha's most important teachings. When we learn to view our life through a different lens and see the truth - actually four truths - we can be inspired to grow and develop along the path to happiness.
This course is a great introduction to Buddhist teaching and meditation, and it is suitable for everyone, regardless of background or experience.

Introduction to Buddhist Meditation: The Four Noble Truths in Modern Life

We all want lasting freedom from problems and pain. This can only happen within the space of a clear, open and patient mind.
Normally our need to escape from unpleasant feelings is so urgent that we become impatient and reactive, not giving ourself the time to discover where the suffering is actually coming from. At such a time, we may think that things should be different from the way they are, and blame circumstances or other people for our unhappiness. For most of us, this is a very old habit.
Patient acceptance, on the other hand, gives us clarity and spaciousness of mind to see what is really binding us, and creates the space for practical solutions to arise.
Join us for any or all classes in this series. Guided meditations are included. These classes are ideal for both newcomers and experienced meditators. Everyone is welcome.

A monthly series about how meditation opens the path to overcome our deepest suffering.
Anger and attachment are two very dangerous minds. Allowing this pair of deluded minds to arise into our conscious mind results in immense harm to others (anger) and ourselves (attachment). When anger and attachment mix, they create the conditions for an even greater danger lurking in the shadows: addiction. It should be no surprise, then, that engaging in behavior that arises from a mind captured by the strong delusion of addiction brings harm to ourselves&nbsp;and&nbsp;others.
In this series, we will discuss aspects of the mind and learn meditations which will help us learn to develop peaceful, virtuous minds that begin to arise naturally and spontaneously no matter what situation we are experiencing. With each session, we learn more about how the mind works and how to meditate to cultivate minds that naturally oppose anger and attachment. We will also learn about the dangers of engaging in anger and attachment and discuss the benefits gained by meditating on virtuous minds that will block the harmful delusions from arising in our minds in the first place.
Everyone is welcome to attend this series whether you have been meditating for a long time or are brand new to meditation.

There is so much we gain from faith and prayer. When we bring faith and prayer together in our mind, we are uplifted and protected. In this workshop with our Resident Teacher, Gen Kelsang Wangpo, we will learn about special practices for building our faith and improving our mind of prayer, through which our wisdom, compassion, and spiritual power will increase.
This workshop will include clear instructions on the Kadampa practice of Heart Jewel - our best method for improving our inner qualities. We can move our mind from despair to devotion through the Guru Yoga of Je Tsongkhapa. Everyone is welcome to learn about how to develop their spiritual practice, their mind, and enjoy this special ritual prayer that has been relied upon for centuries.
