#DYK Pit bull–type terriers can now be legally owned, fostered, and adopted in Prince George’s County under a new pilot program, CB-97-2025, enacted February 2, 2026 At Prince George’s County Animal Services, we are excited to share this important step forward that expands adoption opportunities while keeping our community safe and informed. What’s changed? CB-97-2025 removes Animal Control Section 3-185.01 and allows Pit Bull–type dogs to be legally owned and adopted as long as all requirements are met.Breeds included under “Pit Bull Terrier”:• American Pit Bull Terrier• American Staffordshire Terrier• Staffordshire Bull Terrier
What’s required if you adopt or currently own a Pit Bull–type dog?&nbsp;&nbsp;
<ul><li>Register your dog and obtain an annual Pit Bull Permit County license + $25 permit</li><li>Proof of rabies vaccination</li><li>Microchip</li><li>Spay/neuter (exhibition is the only exception)</li><li>Completion of the PGC Pet Parenting Certification (70% passing score)</li><li>Signed Responsibility Agreement</li></ul>

Plus, help us give our furry friends the best start by participating in our month-long donation drive. We’re collecting heating discs, KMR (powdered and liquid), miracle nipples, toys, Fancy Feast kitten pate, and more! For a complete list of items, scan our Amazon.com QR code! Adopt and Foster Urgent Dogs - Final Day - Some Adoption Fees Sponsored (Arrive by 6PM)

📢 Community members - Adopters and fosters are needed for&nbsp;20 dogs on the urgent list by Tuesday, 4/28.&nbsp;&nbsp;Adoption fees are sponsored or $0 for several dogs and all dogs 81+ pounds.&nbsp;Please go meet and adopt dogs and&nbsp;cats today. They are at full capacity with dogs and need space for more dogs coming in. Please meet and adopt them during adoption hours on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Tuesday.&nbsp;Important: See the&nbsp;Animal Services News&nbsp;(below.)
As of 4/23 PM: Up to 20 dogs need adopters and fosters! Alice is being adopted.&nbsp;&nbsp;Adoption fes are sponsored for:&nbsp;Adele, Beauty, Coco Edi, Fern, Handsom, Myles. Check for updates at the Facebook link.

New Tip: Adopters of pit bulls and pit bull mixes: Review the new requirements and complete the&nbsp;Pet Parenting Certification (that takes about an hour)&nbsp;before going to adopt&nbsp;Pit Bull Terriers&nbsp;and specific bully-type breeds. #DYK Pit bull–type terriers can now be legally owned, fostered, and adopted in Prince George’s County under a new pilot program, CB-97-2025, enacted February 2, 2026 At Prince George’s County Animal Services, we are excited to share this important step forward that expands adoption opportunities while keeping our community safe and informed. What’s changed? CB-97-2025 removes Animal Control Section 3-185.01 and allows Pit Bull–type dogs to be legally owned and adopted as long as all requirements are met.Breeds included under “Pit Bull Terrier”:• American Pit Bull Terrier• American Staffordshire Terrier• Staffordshire Bull Terrier
What’s required if you adopt or currently own a Pit Bull–type dog?&nbsp;&nbsp;
<ul><li>Register your dog and obtain an annual Pit Bull Permit County license + $25 permit</li><li>Proof of rabies vaccination</li><li>Microchip</li><li>Spay/neuter (exhibition is the only exception)</li><li>Completion of the PGC Pet Parenting Certification (70% passing score)</li><li>Signed Responsibility Agreement</li></ul>
CB-97-2025 also includes updates to leash laws, definitions for “animal at large” and “dangerous dog,” and associated fines.

Enjoy a full day of live music and performances across multiple stages, along with an art exhibit, games, chalk art, and a variety of interactive activities. Browse offerings from local vendors featuring handcrafted goods, food, beverages, and more. There will be fun for all ages, including face painting, glitter tattoos, sidewalk chalk art, and t-shirt or tote bag decorating. Local non-profits will also be on-site sharing information and resources. Special activities will highlight and celebrate the 250th anniversary of America’s independence. 
Inside the Bush Tabernacle Skating Rink—transformed into the Art Hall—you’ll find more than 30 works of art, live performances, art demonstrations, and hands-on activities including quilt square decorating and an Instrument Petting Zoo. Be sure to pick up a festival scavenger hunt booklet and complete it for a chance to win a prize!
