Salt Lake City approves property tax increase for FY27 (burgtelegram.com) — Salt Lake City's council has approved a FY27 property tax hike that will add about $13.5 million to support public safety, parks, streets, and core city services. After months of debate and a Truth in Taxation hearing, the $2.1 billion budget is now finalized, with detailed department allocations expected soon so residents can see exactly where the extra money will go.
   

2. 'The Guardrail Guy' brings attention to another concern with Flock and other ALPR cameras in Utah: Crash safety (abc4.com) — From Salt Lake City, a national highway-safety advocate known as "The Guardrail Guy" is warning Utah leaders that some Flock and other license plate reader camera poles may be dangerous in crashes. After his meetings, Flock launched a nationwide safety audit, while UDOT and Gov. Spencer Cox review how third-party hardware in Utah's clear zones can meet the same crashworthy standards as state-installed signs.
   

3. Utah teen recovering after serious beach accident leaves him with broken neck (ksl.com) — Salt Lake City readers are rallying around Utah teen Gunnar Olsen, now recovering at Primary Children's Hospital after a beach dive left him with a broken neck. His family, already coping with his father's cancer, says community visits, prayers, and donations shared through the "Stronger With Gunnar" Instagram page are helping them face a long, uncertain rehabilitation together.
   

4. Utah County launches $2.50 rideshare service in fast-growing communities (kutv.com) — A new UTA On Demand microtransit service in northwest Utah County now offers $2.50 van rides that can connect residents all the way to downtown Salt Lake City using public transit. With 16 vans running six days a week, the county-funded program aims to ease congestion, support massive growth in cities like Eagle Mountain and Lehi, and give teens, seniors, and car-free residents more independence.
   

5. Utah approves 3 more productions projected to bring $9.3M economic impact (ksl.com) — Utah has approved three new film productions expected to generate $9.3 million in economic impact and over 100 jobs, with work spread across several counties and coordinated from Salt Lake City. The projects include another season of "The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch" and a new feature film, building on incentives that also support shows like "The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City" and other high-profile series.
