Suspect surrenders and faces second-degree murder charge in downtown Burlington stabbing (vtdigger.org) — A Winooski man has surrendered to Burlington police and pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder after a fatal weekend stabbing in downtown Burlington near Church and Main streets. Prosecutors say video and physical evidence link him to the attack that killed 24-year-old Deng Dau, and a judge has ordered him held without bail. Authorities are supporting Dau's family as the case moves through Chittenden Superior Court. 
2. South Burlington city leaders work to regulate electric mobility devices amid bike safety concerns (mynbc5.com) — South Burlington officials just advanced an ordinance that would ban high-powered e-motos and similar devices from shared-use paths, responding to safety worries on local routes including the Burlington Bike Path. The move follows several e-bike incidents statewide and the recent death of a Burlington teen, with a public hearing set for September before a final council vote.

UVM offers new certificate program for prospective lab technicians (wcax.com) — A new free biotechnology technician certificate at UVM in Burlington aims to quickly train residents for in-demand lab jobs across Vermont's growing life sciences sector. The 24-week program, funded by congressional support, requires seven to 10 hours a week and can also lead into two- or four-year degrees. Enrollment is open now through October 5, with classes starting October 12.
