• Turning tragedy into baskets: One partnership brings conservation and craft together (vtdigger.org) — Hardwick residents recently joined foresters and Indigenous basketmakers at Atkins Field to turn emerald ash borer–damaged black ash trees into splints that can preserve traditional basketmaking for generations. The hands-on workshops in Hardwick and nearby towns also teach about protecting remaining ash trees, seed-saving efforts, and targeted treatments, inviting locals into a long-term conservation and cultural preservation effort.
