Juvenile detention center planned for South Burlington (vermontdailychronicle.com) — State officials plan to build the Green Mountain Youth Center on Meadowland Drive in South Burlington, creating a secure, clinically intensive treatment facility for justice-involved youth ages 12 to 18. Planning and local permitting are expected to start this year, with construction possibly in 2027 and opening by late summer 2028. The project aims to keep Vermont youth closer to home instead of sending them out of state.

Violet Grohl Premieres 'Bug In The Cake' Music Video, Announces Summer/Fall Tour (metalanarchy.com) — Violet Grohl, daughter of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, is bringing her new album “Be Sweet To Me” to South Burlington with a Higher Ground show on September 22. The stop is part of her newly announced summer and fall tour across Europe, Canada, and the U.S., following the release of her “Bug In The Cake” music video.

3. H.S. playoff scores for Tuesday, June 2 (wcax.com) — South Burlington athletes had a busy playoff Tuesday, with baseball, softball, tennis, and ultimate teams all in action. The Wolves fell in Division I baseball and softball but saw the boys tennis team sweep Montpelier 7–0, while girls ultimate dropped a close 9–7 match to Burr and Burton in Division 4.

Migrant Justice disputes findings of March 11 protest investigations (wcax.com) — Local advocates are pushing back against Burlington’s internal review of police conduct at the March 11 South Burlington ICE protest, arguing officers used excessive force despite the mayor’s finding they did not. Migrant Justice, which mobilized supporters to Dorset Street that day, has shared photos and videos of injuries and says it will keep working with law enforcement statewide to avoid similar confrontations.
