• Bear shot and killed by Stowe police after repeated break-in attempts at restaurant (wcax.com) — Stowe police recently shot and killed a black bear that repeatedly tried to break into the Matterhorn restaurant on Mountain Road, after state wildlife officials authorized lethal action. Fish and Wildlife staff say bear incidents have surged and urge residents to report food-seeking bears early, before they become dangerously comfortable around buildings and cars.

• Crash closes road in Waterbury (newportdispatch.com) — A serious two-vehicle crash on Waterbury Stowe Road Wednesday afternoon brought hours-long closures while crews replaced a downed utility pole and wires. Vermont State Police say an out-of-state driver apparently fell asleep, triggering a chain reaction that overturned a pickup; two people suffered minor injuries, and Stowe Police helped manage the scene and detours.
