Local buyers face higher prices and longer listing times, while sellers encounter more competition from growing condo and townhouse inventory across Northern Virginia.
   

• Carlyle House and Winkler Nature Preserve set for upgrades under new NOVA Parks budget (alxnow.com) — Alexandria's Carlyle House and Winkler Botanical Preserve are slated for major NOVA Parks-funded upgrades, including building renovations, a new bus loop, and expanded parking to better serve local school groups and residents. The agency is also in talks with the City of Alexandria over the future of Cameron Run Regional Park operations and potential new entrances to Winkler to improve access for nearby dense neighborhoods.
   

• Port City Mothers and Daughters Kick Off a New Year of Service With Alexandria Mayor Alyia Gaskins (thezebra.org) — Alexandria mothers and daughters in the National Charity League's Port City Chapter just kicked off a new year of service with Mayor Alyia Gaskins, focusing on local needs like housing, food and child care. Girls learned about volunteering with Alexandria nonprofits including ALIVE!, Meals on Wheels, the Miracle League of Alexandria and InspireLit, while leaders emphasized finding personal passions for service and building friendships across area schools.
