Here’s What’s Open And Closed Around Arlington On Memorial Day 2026
As Arlington celebrates Memorial Day, some government offices, public facilities and services will be closed or have modified hours.
ARLINGTON, VA — Many Arlington County offices, facilities and services will be closed or operating on modified schedules for Memorial Day on Monday, May 25.
Arlington County’s official holiday schedule says county government offices and services will operate on modified schedules for the holiday.

Arlington County government offices: Closed Monday, May 25. Arlington County says government offices and facilities are closed on all federal holidays except Columbus Day.
Arlington Public Schools: Closed Monday, May 25, and Tuesday, May 26. The APS 2025-26 school-year calendar lists May 25-26 as “Holiday — Memorial Day,” and the calendar legend identifies holidays as days when schools and offices are closed.

Courts: Arlington Circuit Court, General District Court, Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court and Courts & Judicial Services are closed Monday, May 25. No fingerprinting services will occur at the Arlington County Sheriff’s Office because courts are closed.
Elections: There is no June 2026 primary early-voting closure to note for Memorial Day. Arlington County lists the next primary as the Aug. 4 Dual Primary Election, with early in-person voting beginning June 18 and running through Aug. 1.
Permitting and Inspection Services: Permit Arlington Center and phone lines are closed Monday, May 25, with no building or trade inspections. Permit Arlington remains available online for customer use, including application submissions.
Parking: Permit parking remains in effect unless signs say otherwise. Parking meters are not enforced on holidays. There will be no Residential Permit Parking in-person service at Bozman Government Center.
Libraries: All Arlington Public Library locations are closed Monday, May 25.
Trash pickup and recycling: Recycling, trash and organics curbside routes will have regular collection Monday, May 25. Special collections, including brush, metal and e-waste, will also have regular collection. The Household Hazardous Materials/Electronics Collection Recycling Center is closed Saturday, May 23, through Monday, May 25, and the Earth Products Recycling Yard is closed.
Virginia DMV: All Virginia DMV offices, the Customer Contact Center and social media customer service will be closed Monday, May 25. DMV Select at Bozman Government Center also will be closed. Online DMV services remain available. (Virginia DMV)
Post offices: All U.S. Postal Service Post Office locations will be closed Monday, May 25, with regular mail delivery and retail services resuming Tuesday, May 26. USPS says many products and services remain available online and through select self-service kiosks.
Metrorail and Metrobus: On Monday, May 25, Metrorail will run on weekend service frequency from 6 a.m. to midnight. Metrobus will run on a Sunday schedule. (WMATA)
Arlington Transit: ART will operate Sunday service Monday, May 25. Routes 41, 42, 45, 51, 55 and 87 will run on Sunday schedules, while all other ART routes will not operate. The ART Customer Call Center will be closed. The STAR Call Center will also be closed Monday, and standing orders, except for dialysis, will be canceled. (Arlington Transit)
Parks & Recreation facilities and programs: All community centers except Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center are closed Monday, May 25. Parks & Recreation administrative offices are closed. Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center will be open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Swimming pools: Arlington County directs residents to the APS pool schedule for APS pools. Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center will be open 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., with Family Play Time from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Spraygrounds: Arlington’s spraygrounds open for the season Memorial Day weekend. Lyon Village, Hayes, Mosaic and Drew spraygrounds will operate from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. starting Saturday and return to regular schedules Tuesday. Virginia Highlands and Penrose are closed for maintenance.
Animal Welfare League of Arlington: Closed to the public Monday, May 25. Animal Control and emergency services are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, at 703-931-9241.
Sheriff’s Office: Administrative offices are closed Monday, May 25, as part of the county holiday closure. No ACSO fingerprinting services will occur because courts are closed.
Human Services: Child Protective Services, Adult Protective Services and Mental Health Emergency Services remain open 24/7/365.
Treasurer’s Office: Closed Monday, May 25. CAPP remains available for online payments 24 hours a day.
