MD Man Faces Felony Drug Charges After Pentagon City Shoplifting Arrest
Maryland man, 24, arrested in Arlington for larceny, assaulting police, and drug possession; held without bond, according to authorities.

ARLINGTON, VA — A 24-year-old Maryland man is facing multiple drug possession charges after he was arrested for shoplifting at a Pentagon City store on Monday night, according to authorities.
Arlington County police officers responded around 8:30 p.m. to the 200 block of South Hayes Street to investigate the report of a larceny.
Once at the scene, the officers determined that officers determined that a man entered a man had entered the store, concealed merchandise, and then left the business without paying, according to the incident report.

"A lookout was broadcast, and responding officers located the suspect near the scene and issued commands which the suspect ignored," according to the report. "As officers were taking the suspect into custody, the suspect resisted arrest and struck an officer. The suspect was subsequently taken into the custody with the assistance of additional responding officers. The officer sustained minor injuries."
During the course of the investigation, officers determined that the suspect had provided them with false identifying information, according to the report. Police also recovered suspected narcotics and burglarious tools. A second search conducted during book revealed additional suspected narcotics, according to police.

Victor Lopez Pastilla of Fort Washington, Maryland, was arrested and charged with assault on police, obstruction of justice, possession of schedule I/II controlled substance, identity theft, possession of burglarious tools, delivery of drugs to prisoners, and shoplifting, according to police He was then held without bond.

Pastilla was arraigned Tuesday morning in Arlington General District Court and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on June 30, according to court documents.
The possession of schedule I/II controlled substance, possession of burglarious tools, and deliver of drugs to prisoners charges are all Class 5 felonies. If Pastilla is convicted on any of these three charges, he faces a potential sentence of one to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $2,500, under the Code of Virginia. At the court's discretion, he could instead be jailed for up to 12 months and may have to pay a fine of up to $2,500.
