NY Man Charged After Trying To Enter Donaldson Run Home: ACPD

ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington County police arrested and charged a New York man after a Donaldson Run resident reported that the man had attempted to enter his home late Friday night, authorities say.

Officers were dispatched just after 10 p.m. to investigate the report of a suspicious person in the 2600 block of North Upshur Street. Once on the scene, the officers determined that a male resident was inside his home when he saw a man allegedly attempt to make entry through a secured door before fleeing on foot.

Searching the area, the responding officers located a person matching a description of the suspect in the 2500 block of North Upshur Street. Officers commanded the suspect to stop, but he attempted to run away. Eventually, police took the suspect into custody.

The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Russell Burger of Ridgewood, New York, sustained minor injuries and did not require medical attention, according to police

Burger was arrested and charged with unlawful entry and obstruction of justice, according to the incident report. Burger was released on his own recognizance.

An arraignment hearing has been scheduled for 2 p.m. on May 18 in Arlington General District Court, according to court records.

Both charges Burger is facing are Class 1 misdemeanors and each carry a maximum sentence of up to 12 months in jail and/or a fine of up to $2,500, under the Code of Virginia.
