Thunderstorms Disrupt Flights At Reagan National, Dulles Airports

Thunderstorms disrupted air travel Thursday, causing delays at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and a temporary ground stop at Washington Dulles International Airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground delay program for Reagan Airport beginning at 3:51 p.m. ET, citing thunderstorms affecting arrivals. The program is scheduled to remain in effect until 11:59 p.m., with an average arrival delay of 41 minutes and some flights delayed by as much as 151 minutes.

The FAA said an earlier ground stop at Reagan National was canceled, but delays continue because of weather.

At Dulles, an earlier ground stop that lasted from 2:55 p.m. to 4 p.m. ET has transitioned into departure delays. Shortly before 4 p.m., departing flights were delayed an average of 45 minutes, with delays continuing to increase because of thunderstorms, according to airport operations officials.

Travelers are encouraged to check with their airline for the latest flight status before heading to the airport.
