Here's How Loudoun County Precincts Voted On State Redistricting

ASHBURN, VA – Voters in Loudoun County turned out for the April 21 special redistricting referendum and supported redistricting at a higher rate than the state overall.

According to unofficial results from the Virginia Department of Elections, voter turnout in the county was 48 percent and Loudoun County voters solidly supported the referendum, with 61 percent of voters voting in favor of temporarily redrawing Congressional districts.

• Loudoun County Results: 88,057 Yes (60.7%) | 57,111 No (39.3%)
• Total Votes Cast in County: 148,994

However, results different greatly across precincts. Out of 107 precincts in Loudoun County, 18 voted against the referendum. In the Simpson precinct, 65 percent of voters opposed the redistricting plan. In the Harmony and Between the Hill precincts, 58 percent of voters did.

With the passage of the referendum, Virginia's General Assembly can now bypass the standard 10-year redistricting cycle and draw new districts. Supporters of the referendum say it will allow the state to respond to partisan redistricting efforts in Republican-led states. Redrawing Virginia's districts could give Democrats several more seats in the US House of Representatives.

Opponents of the measure decried it as partisan gerrymandering and tampering with constitutional controls.
