Northern Virginia Tech Company Anticipates Major Layoffs In Ashburn

ASHBURN, VA – Leidos has announced that it anticipates laying off dozens of employees at its Loudoun County Parkway facility.

In a notice sent to the Virginia Employment Commission’s Rapid Response/Dislocated Worker Unit and posted on the state’s Workforce Development Agency website, the company writes that it anticipates permanently laying off 84 employees at the facility located at 22001 Loudoun County Pkwy, but that the entire facility will not be closed.

The subject of the email to the Virginia Employment Commission is “U.S. Customs and Border Protection Cyber Security Operations Center (SOC) Program.” It could refer to a six-month contract that was awarded at the end of March to provide cybersecurity support to CBP. Patch has reached out to Leidos for comment.

Layoffs are expected to begin Nov. 23. The date of the notice is Sept. 28.

Leidos is a major Northern Virginia-based technology company and federal government contractor with about 47,000 employees worldwide, according to the company's website. Headquartered in Reston, Leidos works in areas including space and maritime systems, energy infrastructure, digital modernization and cybersecurity, mission software and managed health services.

It is a major contractor for the U.S. Departments of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Transportation.

The company has a significant presence in Ashburn. Its current careers website lists more than a page of Ashburn positions, including systems engineering and software development jobs requiring public trust clearances.

Leidos serves both government and commercial customers.

The company previously announced layoffs at this Ashburn facility in January, Virginia Business reported. They were set to take effect in March.
