Western Loudoun Rural Uses and Standards Ad Hoc Committee to Hold First Meeting August 11

The newly formed Western Loudoun Rural Uses and Standards Ad Hoc Committee is scheduled to hold its first meeting, an orientation session, on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. in the Loudoun County Government Center, 1 Harrison St. SE, Leesburg. The meeting will be held in the Purcellville Room, located on the first floor of the building.

The committee, which was established by the Board of Supervisors on June 2, 2026, is composed of nine members; four from the Planning Commission and five from the Zoning Ordinance Committee (ZOC). The members of each body were appointed by their respective chairs and include Eric Combs, Robin-Eve Jasper, Mark Miller and Dale Polen Myers from the Planning Commission, and Tia Earman, Bill Hatch, Larry Malone, Stacey Metcalfe and Beth Erickson from ZOC.

The Western Loudoun Rural Uses and Standards Zoning Ordinance Amendment and Comprehensive Plan Amendment project has been underway since September 2024. The project involves a focused review of existing rural uses and standards in western Loudoun that were identified by the Board of Supervisors. The project aims to propose amendments to the Loudoun County Zoning Ordinance that are focused on issues of concern that were raised during the Zoning Ordinance Rewrite Project that was completed in 2023. Topics addressed by this project include agricultural processing, events, the operation of farm breweries, distilleries and wineries and more. The project has included extensive public engagement, including a series of meetings with members of the Board’s Transportation and Land Use Committee, the Planning Commission and various stakeholders representing the western part of the county.

The ad hoc committee will review and provide feedback on draft amendment language to ensure consistency with Board direction prior to its presentation to the Planning Commission. Their work is planned to be completed by the end of November 2026, at which point the committee will be dissolved.

The August 11 orientation session will cover the committee’s meeting calendar, scope of work, standards of conduct, order of operations and more. The public is welcome to attend the meeting, although there will not be a public comment period.
