Route 28 Northbound Closed In Chantilly After Fatal Pedestrian Crash

CHANTILLY, VA — All northbound lanes of Route 28 were closed north of Route 50 early Wednesday following a fatal pedestrian crash near Air and Space Museum Parkway in Chantilly, according to Fairfax County Police.

Police said officers responded to the crash involving an adult pedestrian on Route 28. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, police said. No information about the pedestrian or driver was immediately released.

Route 28 Northbound Closed Near Route 50

The crash was having a significant impact on Wednesday morning traffic through the Route 28 corridor. Police said all northbound lanes of Route 28 were closed north of Route 50 while officers investigated and urged motorists to use an alternate route.

The closure affects northbound traffic approaching the Air and Space Museum Parkway area, near the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center.

Fairfax County Police Crash Reconstruction Unit detectives were en route to investigate, police said shortly after midnight Wednesday.

Police had not announced when the northbound lanes would reopen. Motorists traveling through Chantilly should expect delays and avoid northbound Route 28 in the area while the investigation and road closure continue.
