Chantilly Woman In Wheelchair ID’d In Fatal Route 50 Crash

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — A 53-year-old Chantilly woman using a mobility wheelchair died after she was struck by a car on Route 50, according to police.

Theresa Flynn was crossing Route 50 from south to north outside a crosswalk when she was struck by a westbound Kia Rio, Fairfax County police said in an update.

Officers responded to the intersection of Route 50 and Plaza Lane in the Greenbriar area shortly before 7:30 p.m. Friday. Flynn was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.

The Kia’s driver was not injured and remained at the scene. Speed and alcohol do not initially appear to have been factors in the collision, police said.

Detectives with the Fairfax County Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Victim specialists have been assigned to help Flynn’s family.
