Kipyn (Kai) Martin, Eryn Michel, and Rebecca Berlin join forces for a matinee of acoustic tunes this coming Sunday November 8th at Mackenzies in Old Town Fairfax. Tunes start at 4:00 pm and there is free parking nearby.
Eryn Michel
Eryn Michel’s songwriting walks the tightrope between real-life mess and wild imaginings—like her life, you’ll never be quite sure whether the Maryland mom and Army Veteran is singing truth, fiction, or a generous splash of both, drawn from a résumé that almost sounds made up: janitor, wedding planner, rifle instructor, Obama White House secret keeper, phlebotomist, voice actor, and private security for a king’s granddaughter. Her songs have earned her the 2024 Bernard/Ebb Songwriting Grand Prize, two American Songwriter lyric contest wins, and one First Place win for Modern Country in the Wide Open Country Song Contest .
Maryland songwriter Eryn Michel has been writing folk, Americana, and country songs since the late nineteen hundreds, when she was raised in Los Angeles against her will. She shocked everyone who knew her when she enlisted in the Army not long after 9/11. Everywhere the Army sent her, a cheap guitar came too, so she could leave it with whoever was inspired to learn.
After serving as a Civil Affairs sergeant and convoy gunner in Iraq, Eryn earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from UCLA, and then worked in the Obama White House. She finally soured on war and politics, and turned to music and motherhood to restore her soul.

Rebecca Berlin
Imagine the voice of Sara Bareilles mixed with the honesty of Joni Mitchell and the poetic lyricism of Ani DiFranco. If there's one word to describe Rebecca Berlin it is alchemy. Her musical style, “folk with a twist”-blends the narrative quality of traditional folk with elements of jazz and musical theater, and she is known for unique melodies and song structures, vulnerable storytelling and a voice that cuts through the noise. After taking a 13 year break from music to pursue dance and build her career as a Pilates/Yoga/Gyrotonic teacher, Rebecca burst back into the music scene in 2023 and is rapidly gaining attention as a writer, singer and performer. Past releases include “Anatomy of a Breakdown” (2006), and “Grief Triptych” (2023).
