Herndon Police: Bike Team Seizes Gun, Drugs During Foot Patrol

HERNDON, VA — A 20-year-old Herndon man is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after Herndon Police officers recovered a firearm and suspected drugs during a foot patrol in the town last week.

According to the Herndon Police Department, officers assigned to the Bike Team were patrolling the 100 block of Alabama Drive on Thursday, July 23, when they approached a group of four people. Police said officers observed open alcohol containers and drug paraphernalia and detected the odor of marijuana before conducting what the department described as a consensual search.

Police said the search led to the arrest of Carlos Monroy Menjivar, 20, of Herndon, who investigators allege was carrying a firearm and drugs.

According to police, Monroy Menjivar was charged with:

• Possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance.
• Possession of a firearm by an unlawful alien.
• Manufacturing a plastic firearm.
• Carrying a concealed firearm.
• Prisoner in possession of an unlawful chemical compound.

Police said he was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center before later being released on bond.

Court Records

Fairfax County General District Court records show Monroy Menjivar was charged with three felony offenses — possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance, possession of a firearm by an unlawful alien and manufacturing a plastic firearm — as well as a Class 6 felony count of prisoner in possession of an unlawful chemical compound and a Class 1 misdemeanor count of carrying a concealed firearm. Court records indicate he was released on his own recognizance following a bond hearing and is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 30.

The charges have not been adjudicated, and Monroy Menjivar is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
