Hutchison Elementary Receives $70K Donation from Time Warner

Funds will help buy supplies for STEM subjects.

Hutchison Elementary School's business partner, Time Warner Cable, was able to donate $70,000 in proceeds to the school after the company's Time Warner Cable Charity Golf Classic.

The funds will help purchase supplies and equipment for the school's science, technology, engineering and math initiatives. Time Warner has served as Hutchison's business partner for three years, and has donated a total of $102,000 to the school in that time.

About 70 percent of the students at Hutchison Elementary School are eligible for free and reduced-price meals. In addition to providing funding for the school, Time Warner has also participated in many activities at the school.

Some of those activities have included the company's Connect a Million Minds initiative, an after-school robotics club, Read Across America Day, supporting the schools' Collect for Kids school supply drive, and sponsoring Math Literacy Night, among others.

Employees of Time Warner also take part in a monthly career day lunch to teach students about possible careers, and serve as mentors to Hutchison students. In the first two years of the partnership between Hutchison and Time Warner, employee mentors donated about 700 hours of service to Hutchison students.
