Sgt Maj John Champe SAR honors Veterans on Honor Flight at Dulles Airport
Honor Flight #129 from the Chicago Metro Area carried 114 Veterans
On Wednesday, June 24 at the main terminal at Dulles International Airport, a large contingent of organizations welcomed and honored 114 veterams to the National Capital Region. The veterans arrived from the Chicago Metro area. They included one World War II veteran, One Korean War Veteran and 112 Vietnam War Veterans. The veterans represented Army (67), Army Air Force (1), Women's Army corp (1), Marine Corps (9), Navy (19) and Air Force (17). Each veteran was paired with a guardian who was responsible for accompanying their veteran throughout their tour of National Capital Region Military and War Memorials. There were several medical professionals with the Veterans in the event any veteran had a medical emergency. All supporting staff are volunteers and the Honor Flight is free to veterans.
A multi-chapter SAR honor Guard presented colors as the veterans left people movers and transited to waiting buses. When all veterans were on buses, the honor guard moved outside. As the buses left the front of the terminal the honor guard presented colors.
The Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter was represented by Ken Bonner and Steve Van Deusen. the Fairfax Resolves chapter was represented by Jim Cordes. The Col.James Wood II Chapter was represented by Paul Christensen, Ken Bonnell and Chip Daniel
