Sgt Maj John Champe SAR participated in Star Spangled Sterling
Sterling celebrated the Nation's 250th birthday with a community extravaganza at Sterling Middle School
A patriotic float with 1/3 size Liberty Bell and the Statue of Liberty was the focus of a display setup by the Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter, VA SAR. In addition, the chapter erected a tent that had three tables plus a station for visitors to sign the Declaration of Independence. The float and tent displays were big hits on Friday. Visitors enjoyed ringing the Liberty Bell and signing the Declaration of Independence. Over one-hundred visitors signed the Declaration. When the event was over, the signed document was presented to the event organizer.
Visitors were treated to a display of non-firing replica flintlock weapons of the Revolutionary War. A variety of flintlock rifles and muskets and flintlock pistols were on display. Men from the Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter were available to explain the weapons and how a flintlock worked.
The Sgt Maj John Champe Chapter Virginia SAR serves Loudoun County and parts of surrounding counties. The chapter was selected as Best Medium Size Chapter in Virginia SAR for 2025. For more information on the chapter visit our website at: https://johnchampe-sar.org
