Democratic Nominating Committee Announces Call to Caucus and Candidate Filing Requirements for Virginia House District 20 Nominee Selection
MANASSAS, VA — The Democratic Nominating Committee for Virginia House District 20 has officially issued a Call to Caucus to select the Democratic nominee for the upcoming House District 20 seat.
The nominee chosen at the August 8th primary caucus will represent the party on the ballot for the general special election taking place on November 3rd.
Individuals seeking the Democratic nomination must complete all candidate filing requirements and submit them directly to Marci Settle, Chair of the Virginia House District 20 Nominating Committee, or her designee.
Candidate Filing Requirements & Deadlines
All completed filing materials must be personally received by the Chair or a designated representative starting on Monday, June 29th at 12 pm ET and no later than Friday, July 24th at 5:00 PM ET.
Prospective candidates are strongly encouraged to submit early, as any filing containing errors or omissions will be deemed incomplete. Candidates may supplement or amend their paperwork anytime before the hard July 24th deadline.
To qualify for the ballot, a candidate must submit:
● A Mandatory Filing Fee of $500 (check made payable to MMPCDC) to assist with caucus costs. If only one candidate qualifies and the caucus is cancelled, this fee will be refunded (minus any expenses already incurred).
● A Petition of Qualified Voters Form containing at least 75 valid signatures.
● A completed copy of the Office of Elections Declaration of Candidacy Form, along with confirmation of its submission to the Manassas City Office of Elections.
● A Certificate of Candidate Qualification Form, with confirmation of COMET onlinesubmission.
Ballot Order Determination
Candidates will be listed on the caucus ballot in the exact order that their completed and proper filings are certified by the Chair. In the event of simultaneous filings by multiple candidates, the ballot order will be decided immediately on-site via a coin.
The Chair will issue a written receipt upon acceptance of a candidate's filing and will make reasonable attempts to notify the candidate via phone and email once the paperwork is officially approved.
