Shuttered Independent Record Shop To Reopen In Del Ray This Summer

The little record store that could is returning to the neighborhood with a little help from its friends.

ALEXANDRIA, VA – Crooked Beat Records has announced its triumphant return to Del Ray, just months after flood damage forced it to leave its previous location.

"We are so excited to announce our new location: 2101B Mt Vernon Ave. We are staying in Del Ray!!" the company announced on its Instagram page on Tuesday. The new location is only a few blocks from its previous address.

In a video, Crooked Beat owner Bill Daly said a longtime supporter of the record store had purchased a building in the neighborhood and that they were going to become her new tenants. The store will be at street level and have two floors.

Daly said he hopes to reopen Crooked Beat's doors in August.

This isn't the first time a neighbor has helped the beloved independent record store find a home. In 2023, a tip from another local business owner helped the record store first establish itself in Del Ray after redevelopment plans forced it out of Old Town.

Crooked Beat Records left its previous Del Ray location in May.

Daly founded the shop in 1997 in Raleigh, North Carolina. He moved to Washington, DC’s Adams Morgan neighborhood in 2004 and then to Old Town in 2016.

In 2014, Daly also launched a record label to produce music by artists in the DC area.
