This Metro Line Will Be Out Of Service For The Next 2 Weekends, WMATA Says

ALEXANDRIA, VA – Metro’s Yellow Line will be out of service for the next two weekends as the transit system conducts what it calls preventative maintenance and planned capital work.

According to the Washington Metro Area Transit Authority, the Yellow Line will be out of service this Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 19-20, and next Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26 and 27, to do bridge and track rehabilitation.

The Yellow and Blue lines will be single-tracking from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. next Wednesday, Sept. 23, for work to heat-proof the rails.

Metro’s preventative maintenance and capital work includes cable testing to prevent smoke and fire incidents, stray current testing, track bed cleaning, switch maintenance, tightening fasteners and bolts and rail alignment, the service says.

Metro also warns that the current schedule could change and recommends checking its track work page for updates.

Metro’s Yellow Line serves Fairfax County, Arlington County and Alexandria and consists of 22 stations in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia.
