Stormy End To Week, Then A Big Weather Shift For VA: See Labor Day Weekend Forecast

Northern Virginia will have to get through another stormy stretch before a big change brings cooler, quieter weather just in time for Labor Day weekend.

Scattered severe thunderstorms are possible Thursday afternoon through the evening, according to the National Weather Service. Damaging wind gusts are the main concern across the region.

Another round of potentially severe storms is expected Friday afternoon and evening. Around Fairfax, Loudoun and Arlington counties, storms are most likely to develop after about 2 p.m. Friday and could continue into Friday night.

It will also stay hot and humid through Friday. Highs around Northern Virginia are expected to reach the low to mid-90s Friday, with the humidity making it feel around 100 degrees in some areas.

Labor Day Weekend Forecast

The forecast takes a noticeable turn once the weekend arrives.

A few showers or thunderstorms could linger Saturday, mainly during the afternoon and early evening, but temperatures will drop into the low to mid-80s.

By Sunday, the storms should be gone. Sunny skies and highs around 82 degrees are expected across much of Northern Virginia, with lower humidity making it feel considerably more comfortable.

The pleasant weather should stick around for Labor Day. Monday is expected to be sunny with highs in the low 80s before temperatures begin climbing again next week.

Otherwise, increasing clouds, with a high near 91. Heat index values as high as 103. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
