VA8 GOP Challenger Reveals Platform, ALX Democrats Back 3 State Constitutional Amendments

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria voters now have a full slate of candidates for the Nov. 3 general election, with the race for Virginia's 8th Congressional District expected to headline the ballot.

Democratic incumbent Rep. Don Beyer secured his party's nomination in Tuesday's primary, while Republican Tony Sabio is campaigning on a newly released policy platform titled "The Promise for America," setting up the general election contest in the Northern Virginia district.

Sabio Releases Campaign Platform

As the general election campaign begins, Sabio has unveiled a nine-page policy agenda outlining five priorities he says would guide his work in Congress.

His platform emphasizes:

  • Energy affordability and expanded American energy production.
  • Job creation through manufacturing, skilled trades and artificial intelligence workforce development.
  • Tax and regulatory changes aimed at small businesses.
  • Border security, public safety and infrastructure protection.
  • Healthcare policies focused on consumer choice, price transparency and expanded health savings accounts.

Sabio describes the platform as a commitment to "rebuild the American Dream" through policies aimed at lowering costs, creating opportunity, strengthening families and supporting small businesses.

Other Issues On The Ballot

The Alexandria Democratic Committee has also announced endorsements for three statewide constitutional amendments that would protect reproductive freedom, repeal Virginia's constitutional ban on same-sex marriage and automatically restore voting rights to formerly incarcerated people after completion of their sentences.
