Kinship Wine + Wares Opens At Reston's Lake Anne Plaza

RESTON, VA — A new wine shop combining small-producer wines, vintage housewares and a gathering space has opened at Lake Anne Plaza in Reston.

Kinship Wine + Wares, located at 1635B Washington Plaza North, recently celebrated its grand opening after a summer soft opening. The business is owned by Jen Cafiero Monago, a certified sommelier and wine educator whose background includes luxury wine sales and retail operations.

“Kinship is really the combination of everything I love,” Monago said in a news release. “I've always loved the creativity and design of retail, and I've spent years studying, teaching and talking about wine. Bringing those two worlds together in one place is a dream come true.”

Wine, Vintage Finds And Events

Kinship carries wines from small producers, sustainable vineyards, family-owned wineries and international regions. The shop also offers international beer, nonalcoholic beverages, cocktail ingredients and gourmet pantry items.

Its retail collection extends beyond drinks to retro housewares and vintage finds, including barware, glassware and other pieces chosen for their history and design.

Monago previously worked in retail operations with RH and Gap Inc. and in luxury wine sales serving restaurants and bars. She also created The Savvy Somm, a wine education and consulting business.

The goal, Monago said, was to create a shop that feels more like a home than a traditional wine store.

“From hot sauces to cool barware, we have something for everyone,” Monago said. “I wanted people to feel like they were coming into my home: warm, cozy and wonderful. Wine can feel intimidating, so we've designed Kinship to be a place where people can be curious, ask questions and find something they genuinely love.”

Kinship marked its formal opening with a Reston Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting on Sept. 17 and a Sept. 19 community celebration featuring wine tastings, music, snacks and children's crafts.

The shop also plans wine tastings, educational classes, special events and collaborations with other Lake Anne businesses, the Reston Farmers Market and local organizations.

“We already have some wonderful partnerships and events in the works,” Monago said. “For now, we're focused on getting through these first few months and becoming part of the rhythm of the neighborhood.”

Kinship Wine + Wares is open Wednesday through Friday from 3 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m., according to its website.
