Reston Residents To Weigh In On Lake Anne Community Center Amendment
Reston residents can weigh in on a proposed Lake Anne plan amendment tied to the Crescent Apartments redevelopment.

RESTON, VA — Reston residents will have a chance Thursday to weigh in on a proposed Fairfax County Comprehensive Plan amendment that could allow a larger Reston Community Center presence to be included in the future redevelopment of the Crescent Apartments property near Lake Anne.
Supervisor Walter Alcorn (D-Hunter Mill) is hosting a town hall from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 25, at Reston Community Center Lake Anne, 1608-A Washington Plaza in Reston.
Reston Community Center representatives are expected to present their proposal at the meeting. Residents will be able to share feedback with RCC officials, county staff and Alcorn, according to the county notice.

Proposed Amendment
The amendment would apply to the Crescent Apartments property, a 16.5-acre site at 1513 and 1531 Cameron Crescent Drive. The site was transferred in July 2025 from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority for redevelopment.

The aging apartment complex includes 181 affordable housing units, according to Fairfax County planning materials.
Under the Comprehensive Plan’s current base guidance, redevelopment of the two Crescent parcels without consolidation allows up to 750 multifamily units and 2,000 square feet of nonresidential space. The proposed amendment would consider increasing the nonresidential allowance to 30,000 square feet for public facility use, potentially allowing a relocated or expanded Reston Community Center facility to be part of the redevelopment.

County planning materials say the proposed community center expansion is intended to respond to community demand, create more space for local services and reduce class waitlists.
Redevelopment Plans Not Final
Alcorn introduced the motion in May directing county staff to review the plan change. The amendment would not set the final size of a future community center, and Crescent Apartments redevelopment plans have not yet been completed, according to Hunter Mill District materials.
The adopted Comprehensive Plan recommends high- and medium-density residential uses for the Lake Anne land unit that includes the Crescent site. The amendment would add flexibility for a public facility use on the property as redevelopment planning moves forward.
Public hearings for the plan amendment have not yet been scheduled, according to Fairfax County’s plan amendment page.
The June 25 meeting is intended to give residents a chance to learn more about the proposal and provide input before the county moves further into the review process.
