New Vienna Espresso Cafe Will Focus On Traditional Methods, Everyday Ritual

The new coffee shop invites guests to appreciate everyday ceremonies, like making a traditional matcha.

VIENNA, VA – A new coffee bar will open its doors in Vienna next week.

Kin Espresso, a new family-owned shop offering espresso drinks, matcha and desserts, has announced that it will begin its soft opening on July 6. The shop is located at 145 Church St. NW.

Kin's social media presence emphasizes "everyday ritual" and the Japanese concept of wabi sabi: appreciating imperfection and impermanence. The shop advertises traditional matcha-making tools like bamboo whisks, clay bowls and cloth napkins.

Kin manager Nicole Badraa says the cafe aims to bring a bit of Japanese cafe culture – thoughtful drinks, simple design and genuine hospitality – to Vienna. The family vibe evoked by the cafe's name reflects what the owners hope to create: "a place where everyone feels welcome, comfortable, and connected," she told Patch on Thursday.

"For our soft opening, guests can expect a menu centered around signature espresso and matcha drinks," Badraa says. "We use ceremonial-grade Japanese matcha, carefully sourced coffee, and make all of our signature syrups in-house. Our goal is to create drinks that feel balanced, clean, and memorable while letting the quality of the ingredients speak for themselves."

The new coffee shop has been anticipated since spring. Vienna's enthusiastic food and cafe community has already peppered the shop's social media accounts with encouraging messages.

"We’ve been incredibly grateful for the support we’ve already received from the Vienna community," Badraa said. She's been responding to comments on social media for the past few days. "As a small family business, it means so much to us, and we’re excited to finally open our doors and meet everyone."
