VIENNA, VA— The Board of Trustees of Green Hedges School is pleased to announce the appointment of Kyle J. Armstrong as the Head of School at our prestigious institution. Beginning July 1, 2026, Kyle began to serve as the School’s ninth Head of School in its over 80 year history.

After nearly three decades in education, Kyle will bring to Green Hedges a wealth of experience. Kyle most recently served as the Lower and Middle School Director at Gill St. Bernard’s School in Gladstone, New Jersey. Throughout his professional experience Kyle has served nineteen years in Division Director roles, including his time as Associate Head of Academics at The Swain School in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Kyle earned his undergraduate degree in history from Trinity College in Connecticut, and a Master’s in Education from Lesley University.
Kyle’s career in education follows in his father's footsteps, who was a 40-year English teacher. Kyle and the Armstrong family look forward to returning to the Northern Virginia area after two decades, where he previously spent time at Flint Hill School, just down the street from Green Hedges. At Flint Hill, Kyle taught middle school, led academic teams, and coached varsity baseball.

Kyle’s unique mix of skills positions him to lead the Green Hedges school community into the next stage of growth with expertise and vision. Jessica Wadlow, Chair of the Green Hedges Board of Trustees, shares, “Known for fostering faculty collaboration, enhancing academic programs, and building inclusive, student-centered communities, Kyle leads with both heart and results—bringing a strategic vision, collaborative spirit, and the ability to connect deeply with people that inspires those around him.” Kyle maintains a student-centered approach that keeps teaching and learning at the heart of his work.
Outside of school, Kyle enjoys an active and engaged family life with his spouse, a career independent school librarian, and their three children. He is a CrossFit enthusiast and enjoys walking, reading, and supporting his children’s pursuits.
